Creating a healthy future requires more than disciplinary expertise alone. Healthy Future brings together knowledge, people, and perspectives to address some of the most pressing health challenges of our time.

Healthy Future is a collaborative platform that connects researchers, educators, policymakers, practitioners, and citizens across the University of Amsterdam and beyond. It takes a broad view of health, including physical and mental wellbeing, participation, equal opportunities, prevention, sustainability, and the social, economic, political, cultural, and environmental determinants of health.

More about Healthy Future

Healthy Future's approach

During the period 2021–2026, Healthy Future supported transdisciplinary collaborations through Seed Projects, Midsize Seeds, and Education Grants, enabling researchers and educators to develop innovative ideas and impactful partnerships. Through these initiatives, Healthy Future helped generate knowledge and solutions that contributed to a healthier, more equitable, and sustainable society. The platform brought together expertise from disciplines including medicine, public health  (GGD/GHOR/GGZ), social sciences, humanities, law, communication science, economics, political science, data science, and environmental sciences. It connected these strengths around shared societal challenges and long-term impact, in collaboration with external partners such as governmental organisations, public health services, and healthcare providers.

For the period 2027–2032, Healthy Future will place greater emphasis on fellowships and on strengthening networks among experts and external partners. The full strategy is currently under development and aligns with the ambition set out in the UvA Strategic Plan to innovate research and education through collaboration, both across disciplines within the UvA and with external partners.
